Hull's brunch scene has quietly matured into something worth setting an alarm for. The concentration of good options around Humber Street, Princes Avenue and the Old Town means you rarely have to travel more than a few minutes between decent choices, but the quality varies and the queues at the best spots are real.
Thieving Harry's on Humber Street is the obvious starting point. The space is small, the menu tight and seasonal, and the coffee — sourced from a local roaster — is consistently the best in the building. Weekend queues form before 10am; the trick is to arrive early or embrace the wait with a flat white.
For something heartier, the options around Princes Avenue lean towards the full English end of the spectrum, with a few places doing excellent eggs benedict variations that have gathered loyal followings over several years. Princes Avenue is also the right part of town for post-brunch wandering: good charity shops, a bookshop, a record store, and the park if the sun is out.
In the Old Town, brunch tends to happen inside historic buildings that reward a bit of curiosity — former banks, converted warehouses, courtyard spaces you'd walk past without looking up. If you're coming in from outside the city, the Old Town cluster is probably the most efficient route to a good morning.
